Our Philosophy
Shepherdstown Day Care is committed to providing educational experiences
in a child-centered, nurturing environment. Classroom environments and
activities for each age group are designed to encourage children's curiosity,
exploration, creativity, problem-solving and skill development. We help
children develop the social skills and empathy necessary to get along with
others, to feel accepted in a group, to communicate their thoughts and feelings,
and to develop a sense of independence. We recognize the necessity of strong
communication with each child's family and encourage parent involvement in our
Center.

The Center and Your Child
All of our programming at the Shepherdstown Day Care is based on respect
for each individual child. It is critically important to us that our children
are happy and that you, as working parents, are confident that your child is
safe, loved and involved in stimulating activities. All of our children are
exposed to a wide range of materials and activities designed to encourage
development of specific skills, social/emotional maturity, and curiosity about
the world in general. Our program is thoughtfully planned and attends to
the developmental characteristics of each age group, as well as the individual
needs and personality of each child.

Our Families
We provide care and educational experiences for children from 12 weeks
to 10 years. Because we know that quality childcare is essential for
working families, the Shepherdstown Day Care Center's tuition payments
for the two-, three- and four-year-old groups
are based on a sliding scale that is adjusted for family income. We
are the only center in the Eastern Panhandle that uses a sliding scale
in determining tuition.

Our Children
Our staff's loving relationship with our children is the key to a
child's experience at the Center. The connection between teachers and
each child is the heart of our program. Our staff guide children as
they develop important friendships with each other, explore with art
and sensory materials, build with blocks, dance, sing, read, try on
dramatic roles and explore in our beautifully landscaped outdoor
environment. This is our children's most important work.
